The WercShop

When did you open?
April 2010 (our website went live April 20, 2010).

What technology are you using?

Ultra-Fast Liquid Chromatograph, Rapid Microbiological Testing Platform (optical based technology).

What do you test for?
Cannabinoids: THCA, THC, CBDA, CBD, CBN
Pesticides: Organochlorines, Organophosphates and Avermectins
Microbiological Contaminants: Hundreds of them with a broad based screening approach in each of the following:
Total Aerobic Count (oxygen needing bacteria)
Enterobacteriacea (gram-negative, bile resistant bacteria)
Yeasts and Molds (non-specific for types - broad based covering as many as possible within this growth medium).

What's your turnaround time?
24 hours or less for Cannabinoids and Pesticides. Three days for Microbiological Screens (our mold test takes 48 hours to be completed).

How many samples have you tested to date?
Over 1000!

I think the number of samples tested for isn't quite that useful in evaluating a laboratory. You could run thousands of tests the wrong way, it doesn't lend to any credibility. While it does speak to some experience, again, if not being done properly you've done nothing but gain bad experience. I would strongly encourage you to not include number of samples tested to date in any of your lab comparisons. Even a lab start date isn't a good indication as I've spent many more years in a laboratory outside of this one, but the principles are all the same. A better question to ask might be - how much laboratory experience do you have individually, and with your team, and what kind of experience is it? our answer to this one would be 20+ years.

How many are you testing per week at present?
Enough to stay afloat but we'd love more (in reality it fluctuates quite a bit from week to week)!

Do you test —or plan to test— for mold, pesticides, terpenes?
Already doing molds and bacteria, doing some pesticides and looking to do more, and we hope to add terpenes by the end of the first quarter of this year. Terpenes are definitely in our plan!!

Do you test edibles and tinctures?
Yes and Yes. We like to say any sample with Cannabis in it we'll test it. We love a challenge!!

By what method(s)?
You absolutely have to do orally consumable products with a liquid chromatograph. That is what we do. Anyone telling you they test their edibles and tinctures with a GC could be providing misleading results when considering dosages and actual compounds present in the mixtures.

What is your pricing structure?
Customized service package based on the client's needs. Each situation is unique. We try to provide the most tests, with the lowest overall cost, in hopes that the most patients can receive tested products. It isn't about running tests for money, it is about getting the best information out to the patients!!

Key personnel?
Myself - Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with a great deal of laboratory and product development experience. (I hate talking about myself, Fred you could probably do a much better job describing me and don't hesitate to pull anything off of our website from the About-Executives section about me too). We have also recently added another Ph.D. Organic Chemist recently out of graduate school.

Any aspect of your operation you want us to publicize?
We go to the client (or suitable neutral location) to select the samples ourselves ensuring scientific accuracy and sample integrity along with clean chains of custody. Customized content labels provided to our clients (we incorporate their logo). Educational services are included where we train the providing staff on what the compounds are and how to best start to guide patients and assist them in selecting the best medication for their ailments. A lot of our clients have said this is a tremendous service and has really benefited them greatly! Customized development packages are offered that help bring Ph.D. scientists together with cultivators and new product developers. We can bring a tremendous amount of chemical insight and regulatory oversight to anyone's operations.

Please list any CBD-rich strains and products you've identified and invite the growers and/or dispensaries to contact us here.

ProjectCBD can and will provide useful publicity for them and for the movement/industry as a whole.
We continue to see PoisonOG show up that is CBD-rich (it can sporadically be found at Reseda Discount Caregivers). We've tested some Cannatonic that has had some phenotypes presenting CBD-rich profiles. We've also seen a CBD-rich 'Trainwreck' (not so sure that was named accordingly), and we've also seen some CBD-rich Northern Lights phenotypes (not all of them) as well. Some of those we've found are from private collectives not currently wishing to be identified.
